Team Edwards set off very early for an Evacuation Experience at Holdenby House in Northamptonshire. Everyone looked fabulous dressed as evacuees from the 1940s and our costumes really helped us get into the spirit of the day.
Once there we were met by Stella from the Land Army, Mrs North who ran the kitchens, and ‘The Major’ who was a convalescing Army Major. Each of these characters taught us new skills and helped us understand more about life for an Evacuee and life on the Home Front during World War Two. From using rations to make pies and Wedding Cakes, to making toilet roll from newspapers, we learnt so much!
We explored air raid shelters, learnt how to bandage wounded soldiers and found out how to put on a gas mask.
It really was a fantastic day!
