New Hall Primary School
New Hall Primary School: Love to Learn

Governing Board

Welcome to the Governors page where you can find out more about the Governors and the work that we do.

From my time as governor it is clear that New Hall is a fantastic school with superb facilities and is therefore an amazing place for children of all backgrounds to grow up and learn. The children who go to school here are a credit to themselves and the school– and you can see how much that they enjoy learning here every day.

The school has come a long way over the past eight years, however there is no doubt there are still challenging times ahead in particular given the uncertain future around school funding. However the Board is committed to meeting these challenges head on, and will do this by working closely together with the Headteacher and the Leadership Team.

You can find out more about what the Governing Board is and does below – If you would like to get involved please get in touch. We can be contacted through the school office if you wish to speak to us about strategic aspects of school life. However, please remember that if you have a question about your child or about day-to-day issues in school then that is a matter for the teacher or the Headteacher in the first instance.

What is a Governing Board and what does it do?

School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools. Governors appoint the head teacher and deputy headteacher. It is governors who hold the main responsibility for finance in schools, and it is governors who work with the headteacher to make the tough decisions about balancing resources.

The Governing Board is made up of representatives of all the key groups involved in school life – the Parents, the Staff, and the Community. It also made up of people with key skills that the Board need to carry out its core functions.

The role of the governing board is a strategic one, its key functions are to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Hold executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Oversee the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.

Currently the Governing Body meets in full once a term, and there are a number of sub- committees, which focus on finance, staffing, health and safety and the curriculum.
